What is a Mission Trip?
A Mission Trip is where you and your team assist Orphan Helpers staff in ministering to the orphaned, abused, and incarcerated children in Central America.
A short-term trip usually lasts between 7-14 days. Trips are often scheduled during the summer months, Christmas season and Spring Break, but teams are welcome year-round. Just suggest the dates of when your team wants to come, and we'll work to reserve them.
A typical day starts with an early breakfast and then off to work in an orphanage or detention center with lunch at noon and dinner in the evening. Sundays include attending a local Salvadoran or Honduran church. Other days are set aside for the team to go shopping and sight-seeing.
What will we do?
We incorporate Vacation Bible School-type of activities in the centers, such as crafts, games, stories, songs, and sports. Some teams prefer to do construction work; light painting, cleaning, or repairs are always in need. Orphan Helpers is always open to new ideas for activities to use in the centers. But don't worry- Orphan Helpers will assist you in planning your activities for your trip.
Daily devotions are held each night for the duration of the trip.
Habla Espanol?
You should try and learn a little Spanish before your trip, but Orphan Helpers will hire translators to assist you in communication.
Going on a Mission Trip is a big decision. But it is an opportunity that is worth taking. The relationships you build, the lives you help, and the work you do for your King is indescribable. This experience is priceless.
Start praying now!
-
Pray for God to strengthen and to use you and your team to bring His love to the children and adults you will meet.
-
Pray for the children and adults in the centers you will visit. Pray that God will open their hearts to accept His love.
-
Pray that you may openly share Christ with others and that you may invite them to accept Christ.
-
Ask at least three people to be your prayer partners both before and during the trip.
