“Eighteen members of the First Baptist Church of Norfolk joined with two George Mason University students and the local Orphan Helpers organization for a week in Honduras. Through a variety of activities, our team brought the message of God’s love and plan to these beautiful children. We provided a Vacation Bible School atmosphere and gave children the opportunity to be kids while learning about Christ’s love. The activities included: sports, puppet shows, parachute games, relays, face painting, crafts and testimonies.

We planted many seeds during our week in Honduras. Many children accepted Christ. We affirmed and encouraged those who were already Christians. Additionally, one member of our team accepted Christ. These Honduran children ministered to us and many of our team members expressed their own personal transformation. We experienced a different culture and unique need for the love of Christ. To many of these children, God is the only Father they will ever know. Many times throughout the week, children and team members relayed stories of imperfect fathers, but the one constant in all of the stories was God the Father’s perfect love for us. We will never forget the smiles of these children.”

“I saw the need of the children for strong Christian leadership and mentoring as well as help in meeting their physical needs. The children were hungry for affection and attention. My heart went out to the youths in the detention centers where you can understand their viewpoints of hopelessness because of bad choices. I have been on other mission trips and was so happy to know that when I left this one, Orphan Helpers workers were still there ministering to the children and youths.”

– Vicki Blett

For Ralph Torrech, this trip was extra special. He was joined by his two sons, Michael and Larry, and his daughter, Vicki. Michael and Larry brought their wives, Diane and Dixie. All three of Ralph's "kids" brought their own children, as well. Ralph was blessed to be surrounded by a host of grandchildren! The Torrech family have joined together to sponsor the Hope House in Tegucigalpa. This house is the first Halfway Home for girls in Honduras. Now, Ralph has even more "kids" who call him "Papa" living in the "Hogar Torrech" (the Torrech Home, in Spanish).
