“The best tournament I have played in,” is the comment we heard over and over after the 1st Annual Orphan Helpers Golf Classic on June 29th. Giving Orphans Life with a Future - GOLF was this year’s theme for the inaugural tournament played at Ford’s Colony in Williamsburg.   More than 200 golf enthusiasts and 30 sponsors led by TowneBank and Pomoco joined forces in raising more than $30,000 to support the ongoing ministry of Orphan Helpers in Central America. According to Event Organizer Bobby Farino, this amount is unheard of for a first-time event. The tournament's success was also due to the thousands of dollars in donations made by businesses through out the Hampton Roads area, as well as Bettinardi Golf and AirTran Airways. Bettinardi Golf donated prizes, which included putters and bags, valued at $50,000; AirTran donated two round-trip tickets.
